About Me

I've been married to a woman and to men (at different times); been a father to four and a grandfather to five (so far). I've been a radio DJ, a sailor, a truck driver, an instructor, a ditch-digger (for one day—that was enough), a computer programmer and a writer. Oh, and an actor and a lifeguard—and an aficionado of camping and whitewater rafting. I've visited almost twenty countries (again, so far), and been in an alien spacecraft. I've gone from being a Catholic to exploring various religions until finding that "spiritual, not religious" works best for me.

About My Family

Family is the most important thing to me, and I have been blessed with a family that is, to put it simply, so amazing that your own life will become better just for knowing about them.

Alien Abductions

Several years ago I developed an intense interest in UFOs, which you could say started when a friend and I witnessed one. Or, you could say it started earlier than that, when I researched so-called UFO abductions for a novel I was writing. Or, you could say it started even earlier than that…

Computers

When I was a kid, the technology of the day—radio, television, phonographs—was simple enough to understand that it could be explained to me, as a child, and I could understand the principles. Not because I'm so smart, but because those technologies were that basic.

Nowadays, however, things have changed. The televisions of my childhood were easy to understand; today, they aren't even all that easy to use!

Health

Most people worry about their health, at least to some extent. And I'm no exception. However, I have actually stumbled on some amazing discoveries regarding how to actually lose excess weight and keep it off; how to cure cancer and infectious diseases…and my conclusions, which I have personally tested, often contradict what commercial medicine insists is true.

History

Despite it's not being my best subject in school, after I got out of high school I discovered I actually had an interest in history. Every now and then I learn some interesting fact or about some interesting person, and write about it; and you'll find those essays here.

Metaphysics

Is money really the root of all evil? If so…who planted that root?

The evidence is that aliens did it…and, yes, there really is evidence, in the form of thousands of written documents left by them and the people they enslaved. See Were The Ancient 'Gods' Extraterrestrials? for details.

Music

Music is my life, or at least its backdrop—and sometimes its foreground as well…

I enjoy composing, performing and recording music. I also enjoy playing it, attending concerts where it's played, and collecting odd and interesting pieces of music.

Photography

I've been fascinated by photography from the time I first learned to flinch from a flashbulb. One day when I was eight years old, I stumbled upon our family's Brownie flash camera and, heart pounding, snuck to the door of the house—somehow, I knew I would not need a flash for outdoor photography—opened it, and snapped a quick shot of the giant oak tree across the driveway, before furtively returning the device back from where I'd found it. There were only 12 shots per roll in those days but it was still months before my mom finally took the last picture and dropped the film off at the drugstore to be processed. When she got the prints back a few days later—there it was! A picture that I had taken by my very own self!

Places

There aren't many things I'd rather do than get up and go somewhere! But taking pictures while I'm there, and writing about it later, come a close second and third, respectively. My fourth favorite thing (in the travel realm)? Why, reading about places! If that describes you, as well, then you are in for a treat.

Politics

People, as the venerable Art Linkletter used to say, are funny. And they are never funnier than when arguing. Consequently, few things strike me as more hilarious than politicians lying about things that are easily validated, and their followers believing those lies despite personal experience to the contrary. So here are a few essays I've written on the subject…!

Random Thoughts

It's hard to believe, but this website—which I created in 1997— has actually been around longer than the word blog. During my most recent (2015) reorganization of the site, most of the blog posts fit into some specific subject (Alien Abductions, Autobiography, Music, Places, etc.) but a few don't; and you'll find them gathered here.

Science

Science is a systematic enterprise that builds and organizes knowledge in the form of testable explanations and predictions about the universe.In an older and closely related meaning, "science" also refers to this body of knowledge itself, of the type that can be rationally explained and reliably applied. Ever since classical antiquity, science as a type of knowledge has been closely linked to philosophy. In the West during the early modern period the words "science" and "philosophy of nature" were sometimes used interchangeably, and until the 19th century natural philosophy (which is today called "natural science") was considered a branch of philosophy.

Truck Drivin' Journal

When I was employed as a corporate trainer, I flew to strange cities—sometimes in foreign countries—,usually rented a car and had to find my hotel and the location of the training facility, usually in the dark, tired from my flight, and without benefit of a GPS system (not yet available to drivers). This was actually pretty stressful. And, as I was driving to the hotel, I would sometimes pass big rigs and look up at the drivers and think, "Now, there's a stress-free job!"

Writing

I'm luckier than the above-quoted Dorothy Parker: I love writing. I love it enough that when I'm burning through something that inspires me, I have been known to write long into the early hours of the morning. And I'm fortunate also that, even in the days before the Internet, when everyone who can type has a voice, I was able to get most everything I've written published.
